First Envision-ings

This summer I had the pleasure of accepting a consulting in job in Las Vegas, Nevada.  It was my first time ever going to Las Vegas and I had fully bought into the city’s last ad campaign, expecting to find gambling, drunken debauchery and a multitude of expensive circus performances.  Although, all of those of things could be found, what I didn’t expect to find was the beauty of the arid desert.  I especially fell in love with the picturesque views of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

Standing in the vastness of the canyon, surrounded by the open sky and a gigantic rock sculpture garden only nature could create, I was at once struck by how small I was, how small all human beings are.  Simultaneously, I had a sense of the enormous power housed in each one of us.  I thought of the tremendous gifts of resilience and the un-nameable force of the human spirit that makes it possible for us to overcome the challenges that life presents us.

Despite this inspired force and the possibility for resilience in each one of us, sometimes our ability to harness this power is diminished.  We forget how to move forward, how to best heal from the scrapes and scratches of our scuffles with life.  Stuck between the proverbial “rock and a hard place”, sometimes we simply need a little bit of help.  Help can come in many forms—a hug from a friend, reading about what you are experiencing, or maybe even talking with a trained mental health professional.

No matter whom we are or what we are facing in life, understanding how to care for ourselves–mind, body, and soul– is key to becoming/being our best selves.  My hope is that this blog will add to the larger dialogue on the web and provide an additional forum for fostering awareness of the importance of caring for our mental and emotional health.  Join me in Envision-ing wholeness, health and well-being!
